DISPLAY DEVICE AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME

A display device includes a reflective liquid crystal element, and the liquid crystal layer includes a first portion overlapping with a reflective electrode which reflects visible light and blocks ultraviolet light and a second portion overlapping with a region between two adjacent reflective electrodes. The first portion contains monomers and liquid crystal and the second portion contains a polymer obtained by polymerization of the monomers. In the second portion, the polymer constitutes the framework of a columnar partition wall which bonds the pair of electrodes to each other. The partition wall can be formed in a self-aligned manner because the reflective electrode is used as a light-blocking mask when light is emitted.

1. A display device comprising:
a first electrode; a second electrode; a liquid crystal layer; and a light-blocking layer, wherein the first electrode and the second electrode are each configured to reflect visible light and block ultraviolet light, wherein the first electrode and the second electrode are provided on the same plane so as to be apart from each other, wherein the light-blocking layer comprises a portion overlapping with a region between the first electrode and the second electrode, wherein the liquid crystal layer comprises a first portion overlapping with the first electrode and a second portion overlapping with the light-blocking layer and a region between the first electrode and the second electrode, wherein the first portion comprises monomers and liquid crystal, and wherein the second portion comprises a polymer obtained by polymerization of the monomers.
