The invention relates to a coupling (18) for a belt tightener (10) in a vehicle, comprising an input element (26) and an output element (34) which can be rotated about a common rotational axis; a coupling element (28) which is attached to the input element (26) in a pivotal manner about a pivot axis (30) between an output position and a controlled position and which couples the input element (26) to the output element (34) in the controlled position; and a control element (36) which moves the coupling element (28) between the output position and the controlled position when the input element (26) rotates in a rotational direction (D) relative to the control element (36). The control element (36) is equipped with a control geometry (40) that can interact with a control surface (41) which faces away from the rotational axis and which is provided on a control portion (39) of the coupling element (28) in order to move the coupling element (28) out of the output position into the controlled position.
