An electrolysis plant for making aluminium using the Hall-Herouit process comprises a top cover (T), defining a main working surface for the walk of an operator (OP), extending over at least part of the surface of this intercalary space, viewed from above, said top cover defining at least one aperture (A1,A2) adjacent to said potshell over at least part of the length of said cell. According to the invention the top cover is also provided with at least one cover member (6A 6E, 6A 6E), moveable between a closing position, wherein it closes at least one part of said aperture (A1, A2) and defines a secondary working surface for the walk of an operator, and an opening position wherein it permits access to said at least one part of said aperture. Also claimed is a method of operating such a plant and carrying out an operation in an intercalary space through said aperture. |
