An arrangement for inductively transferring electric energy to a vehicle comprises a plurality of consecutive conductor segments (T1, T2, T3, T4, T5; fig 6), extending in the direction of travel of the vehicle. Each of the segments carrys a phase of an alternating current and has a controller (31, fig 7) controlling the operation of the segment independently of the other segments. Neighbouring segments are inductively coupled to each other. The arrangement includes a controllable coupling (S1, fig 10) for coupling one segment to a load (RL, fig 9). The coupling has a first operating state in which the segment is coupled to the load so that any induced alternating electric current in the segment (41a) which is produced by operation of the preceding segment is damped by the load. In a second operating state the segment is not coupled to the load. The coupling is switched to its first state before, while and/or after a period in which the segment is not operated under control of its controller and in which the preceding segment is operated under control of its controller. |
