372,382. Fluid pressure brakes. NORMANVILLE, E. J. DE, Haydon House, Kingsbury, London. Dec. 3, 1930, No. 36501. [Class 103 (i).] A hydraulically operated control system applicable to variable velocity gearing comprises elements operated by pressure liquid supplied thereto through valves, the opening members for the valves being adapted to open outlets when they are moved in the direction for allowing the valves to close, and a common distribution pipe having a regulator valve with automatically varied loading. In the system described for operating the brakes 1, Fig. 4, of a variable-speed gear, which may be of the kind described in Specification 292,645, [Class 80 (ii), Gearing, Variable-speed &c.], or for operating clutches, the spring-loaded ball valves 30, Fig. 2, are opened through plungers 35 by cams 40, when liquid is to pass from a passage 29 to passages 31, Fig. 8, leading to the cylinders 15 for operating the brakes or clutches. The plungers have reduced upper ends and may govern an outlet in the wall of the passage 36 and/or may have a bore 38 leading to an outlet port 39. The cam shaft 41 has an additional cam 48 for adjusting the loading of the regulator valve 53, and is rotatable for controlling the valves ; it may also be moved axially for adjustment of the valve 53 and simultaneous opening and closing of the valves 30. |
