The interstellar accelerator 7 for directing electromagnetic energy emitted from the photosphere of a star has a defining mirror unit 21, with at least one defining mirror 30, 32, 34and an external mirror 36 forming a continuous surface. It also has a defined mirror unit 39, with at least one defined mirror 31, 33 and an internal mirror 37 forming a continuous surface, each of which mirror units contains liquid at a cryogenic temperature, which liquid passes through the mirrors in that unit so as to cool them and provide a boundary layer between them and a stellar atmosphere. It is provided with a low-temperature Type II superconducting magnetic field coil 10, 11 attached to that unit able to provide either lift, or reverse lift, as required, when in a magnetic field. An eye mirror 8 with axis of symmetry (18, figure 5) may be provided and control coils 201, 301, control the operation of the accelerator. |
