[Class 132 (ii).] In the manufacture of a golf ball the positions of the depressions and/or projections forming the surface pattern are located by dividing the surface into areas determined by joining (by means of the shortest arcs) the angular points of an inscribed regular tetrahedron, hexahedron, dodecahedron or icosahedron. As shown in Fig. 3, the outer surface is divided into twenty main spherical triangles indicated by dotted lines 1 and each triangle contains sixteen triangular depressions outlined by ribs 2 conforming to the spherical surface of the ball. In further examples, the triangles 1, instead of containing triangular depressions contain circular depressions, and additional circular depressions are arranged on the vertices and sides of the triangle. In a modification the division of the surface is defined by an inscribed octahedron, dividing the surface into eight spherical triangles, and each of these triangles is subdivided into thirty-six smaller triangles. In the form shown in Fig. 17, a plane area is left in the centre of each face to receive appropriate symbols or markings. In a modification, Fig. 22, the surface is divided into six main triangles by equal division of three segmental areas extending from opposite poles, and each of the six main triangles is subdivided into an equal number of parts to receive a symmetrical distribution of depressions.
