PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stop discharge-defective nozzles from discharging a liquid when wetting a wiping member with a liquid before wiping a liquid discharge surface.SOLUTION: A printer executes the following processing when wiping an ink discharge surface 3a of an ink jet head 3 by a wiping member 15. Firstly, with regard to at least one part of nozzles 10 of the ink jet head 3, it is determined whether or not they are in a state where discharge defect can occur(determination processing). Next, ink is discharged toward the wiping member 15 from the nozzles 10 determined not to be in a state where the discharge defect can occur, and the wiping member 15 is wetted with ink (wetting processing). Then, the ink discharge surface 3a is wiped by the wiping member 15 in a state of being wet with ink (wiping processing). |
