1. A method of inhibition of disc degeneration in a patient, said method comprising:
(a) identifying a patient having disc degenerative disease and in need of increased perfusion to the lumbar area; and (b) injecting about 5×106 to about 40×109 mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) directly into a lumbar associated muscle proximal to a lumbar disc of said patient, wherein the cells are autologous or allogeneic non-transfected MSC expressing cellular marker CD73 and CD105; wherein the lumbar associated muscle is selected from the group consisting of psoas major muscle, multifidus muscle, transversospinalis muscle and sacrospinalis muscle, and wherein the mesenchymal stem cells augment the rate of perfusion to the area of disc degeneration without causing calcification at the administration site. |
