摘要 A bone fixation system includes a bone plate, bone anchors, temporary fixation members, and forceps. The temporary fixation members are configured to be inserted through apertures in the bone plate and into underlying bone segments that are separated by a bone gap. The forceps are configured to apply a force to the temporary fixation members that causes at least one of the underlying bone segments to translate with respect to the other bone segment, thereby reducing or distracting the bone segments without interfering with final fixation by screws of bone segments.

A method of positioning first and second bone segments that are disposed in a relative position in relation to each other and are separated by a bone gap, the method comprising steps of: aligning a bone plate with the first and second bone segments, the bone plate including a plate body and a plurality of apertures extending through the plate body, wherein a first aperture of the plurality of apertures comprises a bone anchor hole that is aligned with the first bone segment, and a second aperture of the plurality of apertures comprises a first coupler; inserting a bone anchor through the bone anchor hole and into the first bone segment; inserting a distal portion of a post into the second aperture without extending the post into any bone segment, the distal portion of the post defining a second coupler that engages the first coupler of the second aperture to thereby fixedly couple the post to the bone plate; inserting a distal portion of a K-wire into the second bone segment; causing i) a first engagement member of a first arm of a forceps to be brought into engagement with the K-wire and ii) a second engagement member of a second arm of the forceps to be brought into engagement with the post by actuating at least one of the first arm and the second relative to the other so as to cause at least one of the first engagement member to translate toward the K-wire and the second engagement member to translate toward the post; and actuating the forceps to bias at least one of the K-wire and the post to translate relative to the other, thereby adjusting the relative positions of the bone segments in relation to each other.
