The invention relates to cassettes for culturing cells. The invention also relates to analytical and preparative incubators for housing the cassettes. The invention also relates to methods of using the cassettes, for example, to culture cells wherein the processes of feeding and passaging cells are automated.

1. An incubator comprising:
a housing; a computing device disposed within the housing; a chassis that is coupled to the housing and configured to receive a plurality of cassettes for culturing cells, each cassette comprising first and second films and at least one sensor on at least one of the first and second films for sensing cell density within the cassette, the chassis including a plurality of ports that are coupled to the computing device and configured to interface with corresponding connectors of the cassettes that receive cell density data from the at least one sensor disposed within each cassette; a fluidic manifold that houses a media, wherein a conduit of the fluidic manifold includes a plurality of nodes configured to interface with corresponding nodes on the cassettes; wherein the computing device is configured to
i) receive a schedule of processes to apply to cell cultures in the cassettes;ii) receive and store data regarding cell density within the cassettes; andiii) operate the incubator according to the schedule of processes and the received cell density data.
