A method of operating a user equipment (UE), comprising: receiving a downlink (DL) assignment on a Demodulation Reference Signal (DMRS)-based physical downlink control channel (D-PDCCH) and if the user equipment (UE) detects via physical control format indicator channel (PCFICH) on its legacy control region that the number of OFDM symbols is strictly smaller than the starting symbol for D-PDCCH, then the user equipment (UE) shall assume one of the two following embodiments for determining the resources on which its PDSCH is mapped: when the DL-assignment on D-PDCCH overlaps with the DL assignment for PDSCH, the user equipment (UE) assumes that in the overlapping PRBs, the PDSCH is also present on the OFDM symbols between the last symbol of the legacy PDCCH region and the first symbol of the D-PDCCH; andwhen the DL-assignment on D-PDCCH overlaps with the DL assignment for PDSCH, the user equipment (UE) assumes that its PDSCH is also present on the OFDM symbols between the last symbol of the legacy PDCCH region and the first symbol of the D-PDCCH.
