[Class 6 (ii).] The ledger blade 15 is carried by two pivoted arms 16 and is automatically maintained in contact with the rotary blades by two pivotally mounted cam-faced members 18, the upper parts of which are acted upon by springs or their equivalent so that a downward pressure is imposed on the rear parts of the arms 16 by the members 18, and the machine is selfsharpening. An adjustable threaded bolt 20 passes freely through each member 18 and is surrounded by a compression spring 22 bearing on the member 18 and adjustable by means of a nut 23. Tension springs or counterweights may be used instead of the compression springs 22. The ends of the rotary knives 13 are secured to rings or discs 24 with their cutting-edges flush with the outer surface of the rings.</p> |
