An example of information processing system includes a storage device; and an information processing device for performing near field communication with the storage device. The storage device stores object information on the object. The information processing device writes, to the storage device, character image information specifying an image of a character created based on an instruction of a user. The information processing device executes a predetermined process using at least one of the object information and the character image information read from the storage device.

a storage device having an external appearance that represents an object that appears in a game; and an information processing device for performing near field communication with the storage device; wherein: the storage device stores object information on the object; at least one processor included in the information processing device executes:
writing avatar information representing an avatar created by a user of the information processing system to the storage device; anddisplaying the object and the avatar in the state where the object and the avatar are associated with each other using the object information and the avatar information stored on the storage device; the avatar registered in the information processing device by the user of the information processing device is written to the storage device; and said avatar information is not stored into the storage device at the time of production of the storage device.
