A computer program product for handling binary large objects, the computer program product comprising a computer readable storage medium having program instructions embodied therewith, wherein the computer readable storage medium is not a transitory signal per se, the program instructions executable by a computer to cause the computer to perform a method comprising: storing data entities in data storage blocks, wherein a logical structure of the storage of the data entities in the data storage blocks is a database comprising the data entities stored in tables, wherein the data entities having their data entity volumes exceeding a data storage volume of the data storage blocks are stored across the storage blocks, wherein columns of the data entities in the tables are stored in their respective column storage sets of the data storage blocks; receiving a request message comprising an instruction to execute operations using data of the data entities being logically stored in one or more rows of the data entities in the tables and physically stored in the data storage blocks of a processing set; determining that a data entity used for execution of the operations is stored across the data storage blocks; generating a processing subset in response to the determining that the data entity is stored across the data storage blocks, the processing subset comprising only some of the data storage blocks across which the data entity is stored, the processing set comprising the processing subset; and executing the operations using a portion of the data stored in the processing subset.
