Provided is a method for prompting a nearby friend, the method comprising: judging whether a user has started the function of prompting a nearby friend; if it is determined that the user has started the function of prompting a nearby friend, acquiring the current location of the user; acquiring friend list information about the user; judging whether there is a friend of the user within the designated distance range of the user; and if is determined that there is a friend of the user within the designated distance range of the user, sending promotion information to the user. Also provided is an apparatus for prompting a nearby friend. The method and apparatus for prompting a nearby friend can satisfy a user's demand of quickly discovering a nearby friend, and improve the performance of instant communication. |
