A transmission apparatus comprising: distributing circuitry which, in operation, branches pieces of encoded data into one or more branch signals; mapping circuitry which, in operation, modulates the one or more branch signals into one or more modulated signals by using a predetermined modulation scheme; precoding circuitry which, in operation: when the one or more modulated signals comprise two or more modulated signals, generates a plurality of transmission signals from the two or more modulated signals by using a predetermined precoding matrix, andwhen the one or more modulated signals comprise one modulated signal, outputs the one modulated signal as a transmission signal; and transmission circuitry which, in operation, transmits the plurality of transmission signals from a plurality of antennas, or transmits the one transmission signal from one antenna, wherein (i) when the one or more branch signals comprise a first branch signal and a second branch signal containing different ones of the pieces of encoded data, the mapping circuitry modulates the first branch signal and the second branch signal into a first modulated signal and a second modulated signal by using the predetermined modulation scheme,the precoding circuitry generates a first transmission signal and a second transmission signal from the first modulated signal and the second modulated signal by performing precoding while regularly switching among a plurality of precoding matrices, andthe transmission circuitry transmits the first transmission signal and the second transmission signal by using the plurality of antennas, at a same frequency range, and at a same transmission time, and (ii) when the one or more branch signals comprise one third branch signal containing all the pieces of encoded data, the mapping circuitry modulates the third branch signal into a third modulated signal by using the predetermined modulation scheme,the precoding circuitry outputs the third modulated signal as a third transmission signal, andthe transmission circuitry transmits the third transmission signal from the one antenna.
