441,361. Clamping-mechanism for slides. SOC. GENEVOISE D'INSTRUMENTS DE PHYSIQUE, 8, Rue Des Vieux-Grenadiers, Geneva, Switzerland. April 23, 1935, No. 12272. Convention date, May 19, 1934. [Class 83 (iii)] Clamping-mechanism for the slides of drilling, milling, and like machines having a slide movable along two guideways coacting with two clamping members actuated by a single operating member is characterized by the provision of a wedge system comprising for each guideway 2, 3, Fig. 1, a group of at least two wedges 6, 8 and 7, 11, respectively, movable one along and relative to the other and connected each to one of the two clamping members, respectively, the operating member including a rod 13 traversing both groups of wedges and screwing into one of the wedges 8 of one group while abutting against one of the wedges 11 of the other group, so that upon rotation of the rod through the handle 14 the two wedges of either group move transversely relative to the rod in opposite directions. A third wedge 9, 10, respectively, is used in each group and these are spaced apart by a distance piece 12 through which the operating rod passes. On turning the hand lever 14 to clamp the slide, the middle wedges of each group are pressed towards the guideways and operate through rods 5 to rotate levers 20, Fig. 2, pivoted at 21, to grip the guideway at points 22, thus forcing the slide against the guideways ; the outside wedges of each group are at the same time forced away from the guideways and draw plates 19 on the opposite side of the guideways towards the latter to effect clamping of the lower part of the slide. |
