Provided are a humidifier and a method for controlling the same, wherein the humidifier is structured such that a humidifying element is arranged in proximity to the bottom of a water tank and rotated, making it possible to evaporate all water with none remaining in the water tank and to accordingly provide humidification in a sanitary manner, and the humidifier is structured such that, after the humidifying operation is finished, the humidifying element can be lifted above the water surface in the water tank, making it possible to provide humidification in a sanitary manner without contaminating the humidifying element.
