An endoscope (1) comprises: a bending section (7) provided with a first bending section (7a) and a second bending section (7b); first guide coils (43) which are affixed at the front ends thereof to the front end portion of the second bending section (7b) and through which bending operation wires (41, 42) are inserted; second guide coils (44) through which the first guide coils (43) are inserted; a movement body (53) which is provided so as to be movable forward and backward within an operation section (3) and to which the base ends of the first guide coils (43) are connected; and a bending length switching mechanism provided with a switching lever (21) which is provided on the operation section (3) and which moves the movement body (53) forward and backward to compress and allow to extend the first guide coils (43), thereby variably changing the rigidity of the first guide coils (43) and switching between a state in which only the first bending section (7a) is bent while the second bending section(7b) is prevented from being bent, and a state in which the entire bending section (7) is bent. |
