Provided are: a battery which has excellent cycle characteristics with respect to high-rate charge and discharge; and a battery pack. A battery according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises one or more first single cells and one or more second single cells connected in series. Each first single cell is provided with a positive electrode containing an active material represented by general formula LiMO2 (wherein M comprises one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Ni, Co and Mn) and a negative electrode containing a titanium-containing oxide. Each second single cell is provided with a positive electrode containing an active material represented by general formula LiM'PO4 (wherein M' comprises one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Fe, Mn, Co and Ni) and a negative electrode containing a titanium-containing oxide. If the open-circuit voltage is 4.5 V in cases where one first single cell and one second single cell are connected in series, the ratio of the charge resistance of the second single cell to the charge resistance of the first single cell is from 1 to 1.5 (inclusive). |
