A MONITORING DEVICE AND SYSTEM Abstract Described herein is a portable imaging device (1) including inputs (32, 34) for receiving electromagnetic radiation from a field of view. An array of digital sensors (44, 46) corresponding 5 to each of the inputs (32, 34) to convert the received electromagnetic radiation into respective digital signals. The device (1) also includes an embedded computing system (48) including: video camera drivers (50) developed to process the digital signals to generate one or more digital video streams; memory (60) for selectively storing one or both of the digital video streams and processed image data in a video pipeline; and an operating system hosted on the embedded computing system 10 for enabling operation of one or more proprietary software based applications which, when executed, process the one or more digital video streams within the video pipeline to generate processed image data.
