Provided is a driving assistance method in which a monitoring target management unit identifies a monitoring target on the basis of vehicle periphery information acquired from a vehicle exterior image sensor mounted on a vehicle. A display control unit performs highlighted display of the monitoring target identified by the monitoring target management unit. An operation signal input unit receives user input for updating the monitoring target identified by the monitoring target management unit. The monitoring target management unit updates the monitoring target when the operation signal input unit receives user input.
