Provided is a hydraulic auto-tensioner provided with a cylinder (10), a valve sleeve (13) disposed upright within the cylinder (10), a plunger (14) slideably inserted through the valve sleeve (13), a rod (16) slideably inserted through the plunger (14), a pressure chamber (25) formed between the valve sleeve (13) and the plunger (14) and rod (16), and a reservoir chamber (27) formed between the cylinder (10) and the valve sleeve (13), wherein during normal operation of an engine (E), an operating oil flows from the pressure chamber (25) to the reservoir chamber (27) through a first narrowing passage (31) between the rod (16) and the plunger (14), and during restarting by an ISG (51), the operating oil flows from the pressure chamber (25) to the reservoir chamber (27) through a second narrowing passage (32) between the valve sleeve (13) and the plunger (14). |
