The invention relates to a machine for producing balls (12), comprising (a) a rotary drive (14) and (b) at least one tool (16) which is connected to the rotary drive (14) by means of a mounting (28) in order to be rotated and which has a polishing cup (30), wherein (c) the polishing cup (30) is secured to the mounting (28) in a pivotal manner and has a restoring element (40) which generates a restoring force when the polishing cup (30) is deflected from a rest position and which is made of an entropy-elastic material. According to the invention, (d) the restoring element is designed as a membrane such that balls (12) can be produced with shape flaws of maximally 50 nm.
