Sisal fibre waste is freed from fleshy matter by washing in a trough, and treated with baryta water to neutralize organic acids, and is then mixed with a suspension of magnesite in magnesium sulphate solution. Fillers, e.g. red ochre, may be added. The excess moisture is expressed and the mass is moulded or rolled into sheets. A small addition of a bitumen dispersion to the mass renders the sheets weatherproof.
|
