Hybrid propulsion system for a vehicle

A hybrid propulsion system is disclosed for a vehicle. The hybrid propulsion system 100 including a multiple step fixed-gear transmission device 116 for transmitting torque to a drive wheel 120, an electric energy conversion device 114, and a control system 122. During a deceleration condition, the control system 122 increases negative torque output of the electric energy conversion device 114 to meet a desired wheel braking torque in response to the multiple step fixed-ratio transmission 116 transitioning from a first gear ratio to a second gear that is higher than the first gear ratio.
