Preparing a polygon mesh for printing

A computer-implemented method of preparing a polygon mesh 101 for printing by a process of additive manufacturing. A model of an object to be printed in the form of a polygon mesh is received 102, and is converted 103 into a signed distance field which comprises voxels identified as interior or exterior to the object. The conversion includes a process for resolving degeneracies in the model so that the signed distance field defines an outer surface that is an orientable manifold, and thus may exist in reality. An output step converts the signed distance field to a format that facilitates additive manufacturing of the object 104.
