PURPOSE:To provide an electrochemical device with high operating cycle performance by using a metal nitride or a compound made mainly of the metal nitride as an electrode constitution material. CONSTITUTION:In an electrochemical device with at least a pair of electrodes and an electrolyte in contact with the electrodes, a metal nitride or a compound made mainly of the metal nitride is used as an electrode constitution material. As the metal nitride or the compound made mainly of the metal nitride, a compound of an alkali metal or an alkali earth metal is preferable. If the electrochemical device is a lithium battery, lithium nitride, sodium nitride, a compound made mainly of each of these alkali metal nitrides, magnesium nitride, calcium nitride, or a compound made mainly of each of these alkali earth metal nitrides is preferably used as a negative electrode constitution material. |
