发明名称 Method of producing hydrogen by converting carbon monoxide with steam
摘要 The production of hydrogen from carbon monoxide and steam at temperatures below 500 DEG C. is carried out with the aid of a catalyst consisting of magnesium oxide, alkali carbonate (preferably potassium carbonate), carbonaceous substances, e.g. wood charcoal, and iron oxide in the form of natural iron ore. Suitable ores include haematite, micaceous iron ore, blood stone, limonite, bog iron ore, gothite and ores which yield ferric oxide or hydroxide at the working temperature, e.g. siderite, magnetite or breunerite. The proportion of iron oxide to the total quantity of magnesium oxide and alkali carbonate may vary from 1 : 30 to 1 : 2, but preferably the iron oxide should not exceed 10 per cent of the catalyst mass. According to an example, caustic magnesia and dried bog iron ore are mixed together. Wood charcoal is added and the mixing repeated. A concentrated solution of potassium carbonate and a binding agent, e.g. wet asphalt are then added and the mixture passed through a pug mill. The mixture is then compressed at and heated at 800 DEG C., with exclusion of air. The reaction between carbon monoxide and steam is preferably carried out at temperatures up to 500 DEG C. in the initial zone, and the temperature is allowed to decrease gradually in the succeeding zones, being between 350 and 370 DEG C. at the discharge end of the furnace.
