PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element having a simple element structure which enables shape forming and directional control of light beams by the light-emitting element alone.SOLUTION: A light-emitting element 1 is a light-emitting element which emits light from a flat surface comprises: a p-type semiconductor layer 20 stacked on a surface of a luminescent layer 30; and a p-type electrode layer 50 which is formed on a surface of the p-type semiconductor layer 20 where columnar bodies are not formed and which implants holes into the p-type semiconductor layer 20 and functions as a light-shielding film. Light emitted from the luminescent layer 30 is emitted from emission surfaces of capitals of the columnar bodies which are formed on the surface of the p-type semiconductor layer 20. Three columnar bodies 11, 12, 13 are formed to have a height H and other three columnar bodies 14, 15, 16 are formed to have a height (H-d). A diameter of the columnar body is equal to or larger than a wavelength of radiation light and a distance between the columnar bodies is equal to or smaller than a coherence length of the radiation light. A shape of light beams is formed by an interference effect of each emission surface and a radiation direction of the light beams is controlled by a ratio of a difference din the height to the height H of the columnar bodies. |
