[Class 80 (ii).] Comprises means for effecting reversed drive in variable-speed and reversing gearing according to the parent Specification, that is, comprising twin sets of planetary rollers 20 operating by precession. For geared drives ahead, a disc 17 is connected by a clutch drum 29 and splined sleeve 25 to a drum 35 which is braked, and a planet carrying spider 23 is connected through a clutch ring 53 and a clutch drum 48 to the driven shaft 24, as shown. To change to reverse the disc 17 is connected to the shaft 24 and the planet carrier system is arrested or stopped. In the arrangement of the parent Specification, the reversing operation comprised separating the drum 29 from the disc' 17 and using the drum 35 for arresting the carrier system. According to this invention, the drum 29 is splined at 31 to the disc 17 so as to remain in engagement therewith. To effect reversed driving, a shift rod 32 is moved to.the left carrying with it the drum 29 which is splined at 28 to a sleeve 25 of the drum 35, and also carrying with it by a rotary connection 51 the drum 48. The drum 48 is thus disengaged from driving teeth 52 on the ring 53. At the same time, a non-rotary dog ring 61 is carried into engagement with teeth 59 on a drum 64 connected to the planet-carrying spider 22 of the other roller set, the spiders 22, 23 of the two sets being rigidly connected by a sleeve 15 on a driving-shaft 12. The middle disc 17 is thus driven reversely from toric discs 10, 11 keyed on the shaft 12, carrying round with it the drums 29 and'35. The reversed drive is passed on to the shaft 24 by engaging a clutch 75 by suitable means and the gearing may be controlled as described in Specifications 344,062, 344,064 and 393,624. An hydraulic servomotor for operating the shift rod 32 through an arm 102 is described with reference to Fig. 6 of the abridgment of Specification 393,624.
