PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multimode optical fiber and optical fiber transmission system that can reduce the group delay difference between propagation modes and can make the number of propagation modes larger than 4.SOLUTION: The multimode optical fiber includes: a core having a graded profile; and a low refractive index layer disposed between the outside of the core and a cladding outside it. Parameters of the refractive index distribution are a=12.3-12.6 μm, a=14.0-14.4 μm, a=16.1-19.0 μm, &Dgr;=0.81-0.85%, &Dgr;=-0.79 to -0.55%, and α=1.89-2.05. |
