An actuator (100, 214 -216) is disclosed. The actuator comprising: a rod (104); a cylinder housing (102) defining a cylinder volume (108) and an accumulator volume (110), the cylinder housing (102) movably supporting the rod (104) for movement outward relative to the cylinder housing (102) in response to fluid under pressure being introduced into the cylinder volume (108); and an accumulator piston (106), movably supported within the cylinder housing (102) and separating the cylinder volume (108) from the accumulator volume (110) in the cylinder housing (102), characterized in that the cylinder housing (102) defines the accumulator volume (110) generally about an outer periphery of the rod (104), wherein the cylinder housing (102) comprises a guide that has an inner surface and an outer surface and supports the rod (104) for movement along the inner surface.
