396,062. Extruding plastic coverings on conductors &c. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Bush House, Aldwych, London.-(Bell Telephone Laboratories, Inc. ; 463, West Street, New York, U.S.A.) Jan. 26, 1932, No. 2417. [Class 87 (ii).] An extrusion machine for continuously extruding a plastic covering upon a series of wires has core tubes through which the wires are led, the core tubes being formed with complementary flat sides which interengage and maintain the core tubes parallel. The core tubes 48, Fig. 5, are locked in a holder 47 by pins 50 the holder being mounted in a sleeve 25, Fig. 2, which also receives a die holder 35. A plate 53 prevents relative displacement of the die and core tube holders. The die 36 is splined within the holder by a pin and moves up to its inner position under the pressure of the material being extruded. The plastic covering, e.g. vulcanized rubber is delivered to the die by a screw 32 and the covered wires 11 issue through a chamber 16 heated by steam &c. under pressure.
