[Class 20 (iii).] A spring-roller balancing device for vertically-sliding window sashes comprises, in combination, a casing 3 detachably secured to the top of the sash 2, a spindle 5 extending through the casing and revolubly mounted in bearings 7, flexible sash supporting members 12 mounted in the guide channels 11 and secured to the spindle and to the window frame, and a spring 8 surrounding the spindle and anchored thereto at 9 and to one of the bearings at 10. The sash supporting members are preferably steel tapes and their upper ends are gripped by blocks 14 which are secured to the channels 11. When the window is raised or lowered, the tapes wind or unwind from the shaft 5, the winding action being effected by the rotation of the shaft under the action of the spring 8 as the window is raised. |
