A breastpump comprises a breastshield having a portion defining a chamber within which at least part of a woman's breast is received; a device detecting actual pressure within said breastshield chamber and generating signals indicative of said detected pressure, a controller, said controller operating said breastpump in response to signals from said device according to a determined program.
