The present invention provides for an apparatus to treat water to remove silt and other particulate material from the water prior to its disposal. The apparatus comprises a container having an inlet at the top to allow the water to enter the interior of the container and an outlet at the bottom for the water to exit the container. The interior of the container is provided with a filter material through which the water flows to trap the silt and other particulate material within the container such that cleaned water exits from the container.
