The present invention relates to a system and a method for authenticating an electronic money using a smart card and a communication terminal. The present invention provides a system and a method for authenticating an electronic money, wherein the system comprises a smart card and a communication terminal. The smart card takes biometric signature from a user as an input, transmits recognition completion information to the communication terminal when the biometric signature inputted by the user matches the stored biometric signature, receives an update command from the communication terminal, updates the amount of stored balance data, and transmits an update completion message to the communication terminal. The communication terminal is connected to the smart card in a wired or wireless manner, and transmits the update command to the smart card upon receipt of the recognition completion information.

1. A system of authenticating an electronic money comprising:
a sensor configured to recognize a biometric pattern from a user; a smart card comprising a processor and memory storing executable instructions that when executed cause the processor to perform the steps of: storing a subscriber's biometric digital signature, public key infrastructure (PKI) certificate matching with the subscriber's biometric digital signature, an electronic money information in an IC chip, and the PKI certificate includes code information; receiving a user's biometric pattern; comparing the user's biometric pattern with the subscriber's biometric digital signature and with the code information; determining that the user's biometric pattern matches the subscriber's biometric digital signature and the code information; and based on the determining, generating a completion message including authentication information and a Uniform Resource Locator (URL); and a communication terminal comprising a communication terminal processor and a communication terminal memory storing communication terminal executable instructions that when executed cause the communication terminal processor to perform the steps of: receiving the completion message from the smart card; based on the receiving, transmitting the authentication information of the URL to a server of the URL; and receiving fro the server a notification and based on the received notification, transmitting an update request to update a balance of the electronic money to the smart card upon certification that the authentication information is authentic.
