FLUIDIZED BED DRYING SYSTEM

The developed fluidized bed dryer system is comprised of venturi-type conveyor, drying assembly, tempering bin assembly, heating system, dust collector system and automated control system featuring complete system of drying for high moisture paddy with efficient conveyor system. The invention has an input capacity of 500 kg/h and output capacity of 300 kg/h. Complete drying of paddy with = 28 pcnt (w.b.) initial moisture content was attained after 2 passes of fluidized drying at 2 minutes exposure to 70 oC drying temperature and 4.9 m/s superficial air velocity, followed by 60 min ambient air tempering period (30 minutes without air ventilation followed by 30 minutes with air ventilation) for a total drying time of 2 hours and 4 minutes. Quality analysis of dried paddy samples showed that reduction in head rice yield was 4 pcnt which is below the 5 pcnt limit set in the Philippine Agricultural Engineering Standards. Specific heat energy consumption is 2.84 MJ/kg of water removed.
