A transmission unit for example transmits a video stream acquired by encoding the transmission video data, and the region information is inserted into a layer of the video stream. On the reception side, an electro-optical transfer function corresponding to the predetermined opto-electrical transfer function is applied to the transmission video data, and display video data is acquired by performing brightness conversion processing on the basis of the region information.
