A modular combustor system (10) for a combustion turbine engine and method regarding the modular combustor system are provided. The modular combustor system includes a spool-shaped piece (12). A combustor can (14) is connected to the spool-shaped piece (12). A duct (20) may be arranged to receive combustion gases from combustor can (14). A flow sleeve (24) may be arranged to surround a portion of duct (20). A mass-spring assembly (26) is selectively tunable to dampen vibrational energy formed during operation of the modular combustor system. The modular combustor system may be coupled to the combustion turbine engine from outside the combustion turbine engine.
