The present invention relates to a method for preparing a transparent yttria member through hot-press sintering. The present invention provides a method for preparing transparent yttria by hot-press sintering a molded body of a raw material powder containing yttria using a hot-press sintering apparatus, wherein the hot-press sintering is performed while a spacer is interposed between the molded body and a pressing surface for the molded body, the spacer being formed of a heat-resistant metal, which is not substantially reactive with the molded body at a sintering temperature. According to the present invention, transparent yttria that is highly densified to reach a light transmittance of 80% can be prepared by a single hot-press sintering process.
