ON DEMAND FILE SYNC

Disclosed are various examples for downloading data objects by enforcing a threshold amount of allocated data. A file sync application determines which data objects to download to the client device such that the total amount of downloaded data meets or falls below the threshold amount of allocated data. File system entries for undownloaded data objects are also downloaded and stored in a file system of the client device. If a process attempts to access an undownloaded data object, the file sync application downloads the data object and evicts another data object, if necessary, according to the threshold amount of allocated data.

1. A non-transitory computer-readable medium embodying a program executable in at least one computing device, the program, when executed by the at least one computing device, being configured to cause the at least one computing device to at least:
obtain, from a file management system, at least one file system entry and at least one data object corresponding to a subset of the at least one file system entry, the at least one data object having a total data size falling below a threshold; obtain, in response to an event with respect to one of the at least one file system entry not having a corresponding data object in the at least one data object the corresponding data object from the file management system; and allow the event to proceed.
