ACCELERATED PANNING OF LARGE USER INTERFACE OBJECTS

When an object is too large to display within a given space, the “accelerated panning” method provides a method for the user to pan the object in order to view other areas of the object. The user begins the pan operation by touching the display over the object and dragging the finger; the object pans synchronously with the finger movement. When the user drags into a margin area within the perimeter of the receiving object, the object panning rate will increase. The direction of the pan corresponds to the particular margin. For example, if the user drags into the top margin, the contents of the object will scroll downward. In addition, the further the user moves into the margin, toward the edge of the object, the faster the panning. “Sequential value pickers” allows the user to pick a value from a set of sequential values.

at least one processor; at least one processor-readable medium, communicatively coupled to the at least one processor, and that stores at least one of processor-executable instructions or data, which when executed by the at least one processor causes the at least one processor to:
cause a presentation of a graphical representation of a user interface element comprising a first region with at least one pannable or scrollable element, the first region having a central portion and at least a first margin, the first margin disposed relatively outwardly of the central portion;in response to a first drag operation in the central region, cause a number of updates to the presentation of the first region to display the at least one pannable or scrollable element as moving at a first rate; andin response to a second drag operation in the first margin, cause a number of updates to the presentation of the first region to display the at least one pannable or scrollable element as moving at a second rate, the second rate faster than the first rate.
