PRIME NUMBER SURVEY DESIGN

Methods of designing seismic survey and acquisition of seismic data with reduced noise using equally or optimally irregularly spaced sources or receivers are described. Specifically, prime number ratios for the station to line spacing is used to prevent harmonic leakage and other noise contaminations in the acquired seismic data.

1. A seismic survey design, comprising:
a) a plurality of spaced seismic energy source stations arranged in a linear fashion to form a plurality of source lines wherein a first ratio of source line spacing to source station spacing is a prime number greater than one to one (prime:1); and, b) a plurality of spaced seismic energy receiver stations arranged in a linear fashion to form a plurality of receiver lines, wherein a second ratio of receiver line spacing to receiver station spacing is a prime number greater than one to one (prime:1).
