Array connector (100) includes a connector body (102) having a mating side (104). The connector body (102) includes a plurality of substrate layers (120) that are stacked side-by-side and have respective mating edges (122) that form the mating side (104). The substrate layers (120) form a plurality of interfaces (249) in which each interface is defined between adjacent substrate layers (120). The adjacent substrate layers (120) of each interface are shaped to form a plurality of channels (246). The array connector (100) also includes communication lines (110) that are disposed within corresponding channels (246) of the connector body (102) such that the communication lines (110) extend along the interfaces (249). The communication lines (110) are at least one of wire conductors or optical fibers. The communication lines (110) have respective mating terminals (112) that are positioned proximate to the mating side (104) and form a terminal array (114).
