This disclosure relates to the isolation of a nucleic acid molecule[s] that encode a novel cytochrome P450 and an oxidoreductase from a Papaver somniferum [P. somniferum] cultivar, transgenic cells transformed with said nucleic acid molecule and sequence variants thereof; and including methods for the production of intermediates in the production of morphinans.

1. An isolated polypeptide wherein said polypeptide comprises:
i) a domain comprising an amino acid sequence comprising a cytochrome P450 activity wherein said activity catalyses the conversion of (S)-reticuline to 1,2-dehydroreticuline; and ii) a domain comprising an amino acid sequence comprising an oxidoreductase activity wherein said activity catalyses the conversion of 1,2-dehydroreticuline to (R)-reticuline.
