400,028. Light-transmitting covers for rectilinear light sources. HOLOPHANE, Ltd., Elverton Street, Vincent Square, London. Jan. 3, 1933, No. 189. Convention date, Oct. 4, 1932. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv).] A light-transmitting cover for use with a single or multiple rectilinear light source has a zig-zag, saw-tooth, wave-like, hill-and-valley, or like contour in directions parallel to the source, such that the distance from the source successively increases and decreases, so as to increase the light transmitted by decreasing the reflection losses. The light source may be of tubular or filament form, or comprise a succession of closely spaced substantially point sources. The cover may be formed in one piece or built up of flat panes, it may be made of crystal, opal, etched, or sand-blasted glass or other light-transmitting material, and it may have ornamental or prismatic configurations on its surfaces. Fig. 3 shows how rays of light from a rectilinear light source 11 are transmitted by a zig-zag cover 12, whilst Fig. 4 shows a tubular light source 23 associated with a reflector 24 and a zig-zag plate 25 formed with longitudinal prisms 26. |
