The invention relates to a hydraulic compensating element (7), which is arranged in the valve train of an internal combustion engine directly or indirectly between a cam of a camshaft and the valve stem of a gas exchange valve or between a transmission element of the valve train and a housing of the internal combustion engine and which has a cup-shaped cylindrical housing (10) and a hollow cylindrical piston (13) guided therein in an axially movable manner, wherein the piston (13) is supported on the bottom wall (11) of the housing (10) by means of a compression spring (18), and the interior (14) of the piston (13) forms a storage chamber, which can be connected to a pressure chamber (19) enclosed by the housing (10) and by the piston (13) via a central bore (16) and a check valve (17). In order to reduce the valve play to be compensated by means of the hydraulic compensating element (7), an adjustment element (25), the axial length (D) of which can be mechanically adjusted, is arranged between the piston (13) of the compensating element and the component (1) of the valve train that is connected to said piston. The adjustment element (25) consists, for example, of an adjustment ring (26), which is provided with an internal thread (27) and is connected to or supported on the component (1) of the valve train, and of an adjustment screw (28), which is provided with a corresponding external thread (29) and is supported directly or indirectly on the piston (13) of the compensating element and can be rotated in relation to the adjustment ring (26) in order to adjust the axial length (D) of the adjustment element (25). |
